Winter 2026

Note From Executive Director Dr. Catherine Wolf

February 7, 2026 was Inauguration Day here in Haiti, the day a new president was supposed to be put in power. But, with gangs controlling most of the capital city of Port-au-Prince and many surrounding areas, elections haven’t been able to be held. The mandate of the 9-member Transitional Presidential Council, whose members served as acting presidents, is finished. So, Alix Didier Fils-Aime, the acting Prime Minister since 2024, will continue on as both acting President and acting PM. He has the backing of the US and other countries who hope he will provide some stability in the country and succeed in planning for elections. Only time will tell in this country beset with violence and lacking effective political leadership. Haiti certainly needs our prayers.
