Winter 2026

Education Instead of Bean Seeds

Our Agriculture Livelihood Program took a pivot this year, providing agriculture educational sessions to farmers, rather than providing bean seeds for planting. This was designed in response to the enthusiastic participation of farmers in the education that accompanied the bean seed distribution, as it showed us that farmers really do want to learn new ways to improve their harvests.

Farmers (many of whom are women) gather in a local church for an Agriculture seminar

In the yard outside the meeting area, the team demonstrated how to measure lines of equal elevation using an A-frame and plumb line in order to plan for terracing and putting in barrier strips (rocks or plants). Several of the farmers tried their hand using the technique!

The seminars were felt to be a huge success, not only for the knowledge imparted nor the hot meal that was served but because it showed the community that we know they are there and we care about their well-being.

It’s a way of putting our faith into practice!
