Welcome

We welcome you to Friends for Health in Haiti. We are a 501c3 faith-based non-profit organization working in the mountain community of Gatineau, located 15 miles south of Jérémie, Haiti.

With a dedication to Christian values, Friends for Health in Haiti strives to improve the health of the people of Haiti in a holistic manner, addressing multiple determinants of health through their outpatient clinic and community development programs.

Our founder, Dr. Catherine E. Wolf has worked in Haiti since 1982 and has lived there full-time for over 25 years. She is our Executive Director, the Medical Director of our outpatient clinic, Centre de Sante de Gatineau and Director of our community development programs.

Jérémie (Haitian Creole: Jeremi) is a commune and capital city of the Grand’Anse department in Haiti. It had a population of about 31,000 at the 2003 census. It is relatively isolated from the rest of the country. The Grande-Anse River flows near the city.

Jérémie is called the city of the poets because of the numerous writers, poets, and historians born there.

Port Au Prince is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. The Gulf of Gonâve: the bay on which the city lies, acts as a natural harbor and has sustained economic activity since the civilizations of the Taíno. It was first incorporated under French colonial rule in 1749.

The Gatineau villages in Haiti are composed of several communities in the southwestern mountainous region, where access to basic resources such as food, durable shelter and clean drinking water remains scarce. With only 69% of the population having access to an improved water source, Haiti is the most underserved country in the western hemisphere in terms of water and sanitation infrastructure.

Our clinic, Centre de Sainte Gatineau, is located in a mountainous region one and a half hours inland from the coastal city of Jérémie, Haiti, far to the west of Port au Prince.
