In our blogs, we like to highlight the visitors and groups that come to work with us in Haiti.  They are an important part of our ministry here, since they help us to offer additional services to our patients and the communities around the clinic.  We are appreciative of the supplies and medications that they bring to us as well, since it helps to reduce our cost of operations here at the clinic.  Kudos to our visitors!...

It is not uncommon in Haiti to have children being raised by grandparents or other relatives. Sometimes their parents are living, but are unable to provide for the child. Sometimes, the parents are no longer living together and one of the grandparents assumes care of the child so the parents can be free to work and make a life for themselves. And, sometimes, the parents have died, leaving the child in the care of extended...

Last Thursday we had the biggest emergency in the history of our clinic in Gatineau. There’s a family that lives near the clinic and the parents have a lot of children, most of them grown. As is typical of many people who live near the clinic, they are very poor. We’ve seen most of the family in the clinic at one time or another with various illnesses.

Around 3pm on Thursday afternoon, just as we were winding up another b...

We’ve had a number of significant events in the history of Friends for Health in Haiti since Cherlie and I started our ministry here in 2007.  One of the most significant occurred on Monday, March 17th when we moved all of our patient operations into the new clinic building.  We had been delayed in doing this due to ongoing construction at the site, including some finishing touches being put on the clinic porch and doors....

For those of you who enjoy following our construction progress, here are some photos from the past couple of weeks.  We have had a very dry summer here, which is not good for the crops, but is very good for our construction.  Rain makes it hard to get materials up to the site and for the workers to work, but, fortunately, the rain that has fallen has been mostly at night and the road is...

The past few weeks have been extremely busy for us in the clinic, as we strive to care for all who come to us for medical assistance.  Here is a gentleman with a fever, awaiting diagnosis and treatment recommendations:

This little girl wasn’t particularly sick, but she sure was cute:

Kivens Jean is a three year old who’s been our patient since before he was born!  We took care of his mother until her...

Yesterday, March 6th, was the first time our new clinic was used for patient care and it wasn’t even by us!  We had the privilege of hosting a group of 4 dentists and 10 dental students from Temple University in Philadelphia, thanks to Haitian Health Foundation (HHF).  They set up portable dental chairs on the porch of our new clinic, spread their instruments out on tables and quickly went to work pulling teeth on 46 pati...
