17 communities were identified as areas that were feasible for planting beans.
A meeting was held at the clinic on July 11, 2009 with 2 representatives from
each of these 17 communities. (See photo at right)
Goals of the project were discussed and included:
Help struggling farmers who lost crops in the hurricanes
Encourage and develop community organization
Serve as a pilot project for future development projects
Become an ongoing assistance program which recycles within the
community and extends to neighboring communities
Procedure pre-planting:
A notebook was given to each team
The community is to organize a management committee of 5-6 members
Two members of the organizing committee will come to the clinic to receive the funds (all communities have received their funds)
The committee will meet to assign members to purchase seeds (each community will purchase their own seeds) and to decide which farmers will participate in the program
Names of committee members and participants with the amount of seeds received will be recorded in the notebook and reviewed with clinic staff
Procedure post-harvest:
Management committee is responsible to collect 2x the amount of seeds given to each farmer
½ of these harvested seeds will be re-distributed within the community to a new list of participants. Method of distribution and quantities given out and received back will be determined by the committee from this point on.
½ of the harvested seeds will be given to a neighboring community. The committee will help this neighboring community organize their own management committee and follow the same procedure for seed distribution within their community.

Construction is to begin in early September
3. Road Repairs
The engineer has developed a budget for repair of three areas of the road leading from Jérémie to Gatineau. This budget is in line with the amount of funds allotted for these repairs.
The engineer will take responsibility for implementing the repairs in collaboration with the Regional Director of Transportation.
It is FHH’s desire that our involvement in these road repairs be kept anonymous.
